For almost 70 years the
Scottish White Fish Producers' Association has protected the interests of
Scotland's fishermen.
The
Scottish fishing industry lands about 70% of total UK landings and the
SWFPA is the largest organisation of its kind in Europe representing 225 vessels and more than 1400 men. Its members generate an annual turnover of €200 million creating business of vital importance to the economy of
Scotland.
To protect
Scotland's fishermen the
SWFPA must first protect the assets which create the wealth to sustain the industry – the fish in Europe's waters.
The Association believes the wealth of an industry like fishing is judged not only by its income but by the health of its resource.
As custodians of the sea this understanding is woven into everything the Association undertakes and we are at the forefront in promoting measures which safeguard stock sustainability and biodiversity while allowing fishermen to conduct their business.
It is a professional organisation with two clear lines of operation:
- Services to members and political activity
- Forward thinking and innovative.
The
SWFPA is seen as the responsible face of fishing, we are the vanguard of efforts to transform the management system so good husbandry and the protection of stocks is rewarded.
To help achieve its aims it has established robust links with environmental organisations such as
WWF.
We endeavour to provide a win-win situation – long term stability to enable planning and investment by the businesses which makeup its membership, and healthy stocks of the fish on which their fortunes depend.
