The services which the SWFPA provides to its members fall into two main categories. It fights to protect their interests nationally and internationally in the political arena, and it strives to offer benefits for members in the day to day operation of their businesses.
In the past its members have struggled with uncertainty - something they are keen to leave behind. They run businesses which require significant investment, stability and confidence.
On a practical level we run a healthcare scheme to ensure the 1400 men the SWFPA represents have access to the best possible opportunity to secure high quality medical support.
It has also created the company Box Pool Solutions Ltd to provide boxes to the Scottish industry, and beyond, at the most competitive rate. SWFPA has delivered significant financial benefits to its members as a result.
A lack of profitability in the past has driven many out of the industry and to help address the chronic shortage of trained crew the SWFPA works with accredited agents overseas to facilitate the transfer of non EU nationals.
The Association constantly endeavours to meet the changing political and practical needs of Scotland's catchers.
