FIPs

Fishery Improvement Projects are “multi-stakeholder initiatives that aim to improve a fishery towards sustainability and MSC certification. The MSC works to support such improvement by developing tools and building capacity on the ground” (source: MSC website).

 

SWFPA is involved in several FIPs in the UK. In 2016, the first round of Project UK Fisheries Improvements (PUKFI) started. SWFPA has been a member of the following projects:

• North Sea plaice & lemon sole, demersal trawl, beam trawl & seine
• Channel scallops, dredge
• ITM Nephrops Industry Press Release

The second round from PUKFI started in 2018 and focuses on Scottish nephrops and scallops.
